1Thursday night found Mike Benedum in action at Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pa.) to pilot his Appalachian Minerals No. 25 Late Model for the 15th annual Firecracker 100 weekend. Drawing a stout field of 53 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries for the three-day event, Benedum recorded a sixth-place finish in his heat, sending him into the B-Main for another shot at the $6,000-to-win preliminary feature. Needing to place second or better, Mike logged a sixth-place finish.

The following night for another preliminary feature, Mike timed in sixth fastest in his group before placing fourth in his heat race. Transferring into the B-Main, Benedum streaked to a 10-lap consolation victory, which positioned him 20th on the starting grid for the show. Gaining two spots in the 30-lap affair, Mike recorded an 18th-place finish.

With preliminary results determining the starting lineups for heat races on Saturday, Benedum posted a fifth-place finish before coming in third in his B-Main. Earning a spot into the Uncle Sam 30 non-qualifier feature, Mike charged to the 30-lap consolation victory, giving him the option to pocket the $2,000 payday or tag the tail of the field for the $30,000-to-win Firecracker 100. Electing to start at the back of the grid, Benedum was an early retiree from the 100-lapper on lap 16. (Jason Shank photo)
